William McNamara Resigns

Former Mayor and Democrat William McNamara resigned as chief of the Ethics Commission. This action was taken in response to the February 11th decision by the Democrats of the City Council to reject the Commissions unanimous recommendation to reprimand alderman Paul Catanzaro. While the commission’s Republicans and Democrats voted unanimously to reprimand Mr. Catanzaro, the Democrats used their majority on the City Council to reject the allegations.

I’m curious…who besides William MacNamara is (was) on the Ethics Commission at the time of Catanzaro’s hearing? How many Democrats, how many Republicans?

A quorum of the commission dismissed the complaint 2-1, but on Dec. 22, commissioner Jill Kemp, a Republican, made a motion to reconsider the dismissal. During a Jan. 21 meeting, the commission heard testimony and added two letters to its investigation. After reviewing the material, Republican commissioners William Dworski, Jill Kemp and Carmelo Rodriguez, along with Democrats Kemp and McNamara, voted unanimously that Catanzaro be reprimanded for two violations.

Looks like it is a panel of five with three Republicans and two Democrats – what I find striking is that all five voted to reprimand Catanzaro.
