“The quality of our schools is a key component to the revitalization of our city. If I am fortunate enough to obtain a seat on the Board of Education, I will seek to promote practices and changes that will help the children of New Britain reach their fullest potential.”

Anthony J. Kane (age 28) was born and raised in New Britain, attending New Britain’s public schools through middle school.  After graduating from UConn in 2003 with a BA in music and a BS in Education, he returned to New Britain, buying a home here where he now lives with his wife Mariette and their daughter Maura. He currently works as a elementary music teacher in Cheshire Public Schools, where he has served for six years. He will earn his Masters in Music Education from CCSU this December.  He and his wife Mariette, who serves as an Emergency Department nurse, believe community and civil service are an integral part of one’s life.

Anthony has a wide base of experience that makes him uniquely qualified to serve on the Board of Education. He has shown his dedication to civil service by serving on the Civil Service Commission for the City and he has shown his dedication to the community by serving on the Executive board of the Main Street Singers. In addition to his experience in politics, as a teacher and a parent, Anthony has a realistic view of the challenges that parents, teachers, and students face in the current educational climate. Anthony is also familiar with the language and trends used in the educational community, and has already visited several schools in New Britain, as well as familiarized himself with the available data for the city, such as test scores, programs and curriculum, and other vital information. This work has given Anthony a clear view of the challenges faced by New Britain’s schools, as well as the strengths both the district and the students possess.

It is this level of dedication that Anthony will bring to the office when he is elected. His persistence, dedication, and tireless work ethic will drive him to better New Britain’s schools for the children of the future, including his own. Most importantly, Anthony is a product of the New Britain Public Schools. He views his memories of his education and of this city with fondness. He enjoyed the diversity the city offered and the sense of community that it fostered within him.  As a member of the Board of Education, Anthony will work to instill this same fondness in the students of today.
