“Education makes people easy to lead but difficult to drive; easy to govern but impossible to enslave” (unknown author)

Paul M. Carver (age 56) was born and raised in New Britain. He is a homeowner, and resides on Garry Drive with his wife Lisa and their two children, Alex (NBHS class of 2008) and Tory (NBHS class of 2013). Paul attended New Britain public schools through ninth grade and graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 1971. He then attended Greater Hartford Community College and Central Connecticut State College.  He is currently employed by the State of Connecticut, Department of Public Utility Control as a Rate Specialist.

Paul’s community involvement is extensive. He was elected to the Common Council, serving for five terms. He was Chairman of the New Britain Parks and Recreation Commission, a Zoning Board of Appeals Commissioner and a member of the New Britain Public Library’s Board of Directors for twelve years, serving as President of the Board for four of those years. He is a former member of the New Britain Institute’s Board of Managers, and a former board member of New Britain Emergency Medical Services and the Citizen Property Owners Association. He is currently a Corporator for the New Britain YMCA and the Community Mental Health Affiliates, a member of the New Britain Lodge of Elks, a member of the New Britain chapter of the Sons of Italy, an Elder in his church, and President of the congregation. He is also the chairman of the New Britain Republican Town Committee.

Paul, who is serving his first term on the Board of Education, is seeking reelection. He is one of the few BOE members with children in the New Britain school system, and believes this gives him a day to day perspective on issues that come before the board. He also is chair of the BOE’s Finance Committee, where he puts in place his conviction to direct resources to classroom instruction and student activities.
